NABE - WINTER COOKING  SAKE TASTING  - NOVEMBER 2024

You are invited to celebrate  the end of a fabulous year, with a “Nabe” Hot Pot Dinner
Date: Nov 23rd
Time: 4:30  to 7pm
With preparation from 3:00-4;30
Location: Rod and Gun Club
Cost:
$5 per person
$10 for a family
$5 for a sake ticket

Come and join the Nelson-Izu Friendship Society in celebrating the end of a very successful season of activities and cultural events made possible with the Japanese Canadian Legacies Grant. Learn about the traditional winter dinners by taking part in a family fun food event where together we will prepare and share a “Nabe” or a winter “hot pot”.

As members of the society and participants of the cultural grant events you are invited to come celebrate and share all the Cultural Events we have held this year.  Bring your sumi-e, lanterns, calligraphy, and origami to display what you practiced and created. Drummers, please take some time to practice so we can have a short taiko performance.

While we will be all cooking together, in order to be ready to do this we are asking for volunteers to come early with their sharp knives and cutting boards to help prepare the food and stock for the hot pots.  If you are familiar with this style of cooking, please let us know as we also need people who are familiar or willing to learn to help guide those new to the experience.

In honor of Stuart Cook, a long time Society and board member who sadly passed away this year, we will also have a sake tasting opportunity.  This is sold as a separate ticket.

A) If you have already written to register, please send an e-transfer to [email protected] to pay now. You will not receive a confirmation message from us. Acceptance of your payment will be confirmation of your registration.

B) If you would like to join us on November 23rd but have not written to register yet, please reply to this email and tell us:

1.     the names and number of people attending,
2.     the number of sake tickets you would like to purchase (each ticket is worth two 2 oz tastes of your choice of sake)
3. if you wish to volunteer to arrive earlier to prepare food, or in some other capacity.  If so, you will receive more details about volunteering at a later date.
Next, please send an e-transfer to [email protected] at the same time. You will not receive a confirmation messge from us. Acceptance of your payment will be confirmation of your registration.

Please remember the deadline to register is Friday November 8th. Once registered and paid, you will receive more details by email closer to November 23rd. We will also reply later to any individual questions.

Thank you from the Nabe Organizing Committee.
