Nelson Izu-shi Friendship Society Obon Summer Picnic Sunday August 11th 4:30 – 7:30 pm Lakeside Park Rotary Shelter A potluck celebration to meet and welcome our Sister city visitors
Obon is a reunion of friends and family and a celebration of summer. Although it originated as a Buddhist event honouring our ancestors this celebration has become a community event in both Japan and Canada. A highlight is the bon odori - simple folk dances that everyone can learn and participate in.
Come meet our sister city Izu-shi guests and the Nelson exchange members who vis-ited Izu-shi this spring.
Bring your whole family, your own eating utensils and a pot-luck dish to contribute to the meal. Beverages will be pro-vided.
Come hear exchange visit sto-ries from both our guests and the enthusiastic Nelson mem-bers who visited Izu-shi this spring.
Wear a Yukata or Jinbei/samue (light summer dress) if you have one. Learn about Obon and participate in Bon Odori dances and singing songs. Join us in making new friends and sharing new experiences to enrich our lives.
